The Levine museum of the new south - Noah Carpenter - Week 4

Week 4 on Monday I had a department meeting with everyone and they were talking about events they should do and who they should bring to it. It was cool seeing how the events are made from just an idea to a reality. After I got in touch with the Social media/ Marketing person and her name was Courtney. I was very excited to work with the social media team.

Tuesday

We had a call in the morning talking about what I will be doing. I was tasked to look at what content gen-z likes on TikTok, What history content is popular on TikTok, and what do other museum post. I started working on it and found that gen-z like more creative and different constant that stands out and of course comedy videos. I found that most popular videos were interactive tour videos and "did you know" content. Other big museums posted multiple times a week and usually it was tours or facts about items in there museum.

Wednesday

In the morning I got onto a call with Courtney to talk about the assignment and told her about the trends and the museum content and she liked my ideas and said that when she did research that she found close to the same thing and that we could do those ideas

 Thursday

Thursday I was asked to come into the museum in the morning to help count money in the donations box which was fun and I got to go into the bank to check it in. After that I had my book reading at imaginOn which was amazing twenty plus kids showed up and they were all chill and listened well. They loved the crafts and the parents were all really cool and I enjoyed talking with them. Overall it was a really fun experience and everything went great.

Friday

I had my big presentation with Alex and Franky which she was the boss and supervisor of everyone. We got onto a zoom call and I presented my slides about what I think they could do to have more younger people come into the museum. They liked the ideas and I said that they should expand on the youth voices and the social media that I already talked about with other staff members. I also suggested that they should work with a company called 704shops which is a street clothing brand for Charlotte that's I think gen-z would like more then the shirts they have now. Then they asked about my experience at DC and what we learned while we there. The end of the call Franky asked me has anything changed or have my  interest in museum heightened now? I told her that working with all of them have really humanized the staff because we don't really interact with museum staff besides when you first walk in and leave. I have definitely gotten more of in interest in museums after this with how everything is run and all the love and passion that goes into running it. I think that anyone my age should go in there and learn about the history of the place they are from because it was amazing and I learned so much from everyone.

Museum of Science & Industry - Thalia Estrada, Week 4

Museum of Science & Industry in Chicago Internship Thalia Estrada     Hey everyone! :)  It is hard to believe that four weeks have easily gone by. I got to build wonderful relationships with the staff in the MSI educational team and I also got to know the overall museum—with its many exhibits—  on a deeper level. This is what I did on my final week: This is how the museum looks from the outside. It is absolutely stunning.           To begin with the week, I got to the museum early because the office does team huddles on Monday mornings. In these huddles, the educational team speaks with the vice president and education and chief learning and community officer, Dr. Jessica Chavez. A calendar is projected onto TV where the team then discusses their latest projects and keeps the education department up to date with any events that are coming up in the week. This is also a great time for the team to ask for assistance, or make everyone a...

National Museum of Mexican Art - Citlalli Alaniz, Week 1

Week 1 (July 1-July 7)  Hi everyone! My internship started last week and I am an educational intern at the National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago, helping with the ImaginARTE Summer Camp which is for children ages 7-12. Since summer camp started in late June, I quickly jumped in ready to help and get to know all the children. My first week consisted of 3 summer camp days and my story time session in that weekend.  Summer camp quickly became accustomed to seeing me and receiving help distributing supplies, helping them, and supervising them during recess time. The summer camp's theme is based on making individual mini-museums to showcase the different aspects and components of museums. Each week focuses on a different component, my first week's theme was all about making sculptures and creating condition reports for the children's museum. The week concluded with the children making their sculptures and them being added to a sculpture garden that was previously made. ...

Arte Americas - Mateo De Anda, Week 2/3

Last week I had a slow start with lots of research and planning. Towards the end of last week we in the programs department received a brief course on managing a classroom space, including setting up the environment, creating classroom norms and expectations and how to present to kids while maintaining their attention and interest. We also covered, more specifically, how that is accomplished reading a book. This week I got to put theory and planning to practice. Saturday, Arte Americas hosted another Bilingual Story-time event. While the reading went on, I observed the suggestions that we had learned in the training being applied effectively. Besides the usual set up process of the reading and activity spaces, this week there was also a projected video between spots that I helped with. I believe after what I learned this week I'm more than ready to host my own Storytime.  Sunday, I returned to my research. I spent most of the day contacting other organizations in the area and devel...
