Internship Week 4 - Evelyn Garayalde - HistoryMiami Museum

This post is about my last week at HistoryMiami. I know that this post is a little late, but this is how my last week went. My last Saturday at HistoryMiami was: Saturday On Saturday, August 3, the top floor in both the north and south buildings were closed due to repairs. This meant that our most popular exhibit, Tropical Dreams , was unavailable, and the museum was open to the public for free. There were a few changes, including Hands-on History learning stations where kids and adults could do crafts, interact, or play with toys and artifacts. It was so nice to see both kids and adults enjoying themselves at our Hands-on History stations. I also spent much more time in the south building than I normally would. There, I got to meet and talk to many different guests and staff. I even taught a couple of families how to play Cuban dominoes. I saw some fun things posted on our community board: Wednesday The next time I was at the museum was Wednesday, August 7. It felt really weird and ki...

The Levine museum of the new south - Noah Carpenter - Week 4

Week 4 on Monday I had a department meeting with everyone and they were talking about events they should do and who they should bring to it. It was cool seeing how the events are made from just an idea to a reality. After I got in touch with the Social media/ Marketing person and her name was Courtney. I was very excited to work with the social media team. Tuesday We had a call in the morning talking about what I will be doing. I was tasked to look at what content gen-z likes on TikTok, What history content is popular on TikTok, and what do other museum post. I started working on it and found that gen-z like more creative and different constant that stands out and of course comedy videos. I found that most popular videos were interactive tour videos and "did you know" content. Other big museums posted multiple times a week and usually it was tours or facts about items in there museum. Wednesday  In the morning I got onto a call with Courtney to talk about the assignment and...

The Levine museum of the new south - Noah Carpenter - week 3

Monday of week 3 I met up with Lindsey the school programs leader. She showed me the app they use to do self guided tours around the city so I did the tour which was really fun walking around the city. When I got back she had me go around the museum and look at parts of it that we can engage little kids with. Tuesday I was supposed to go to our bridge again but I couldn't sadly due to it being canceled so I worked on my final project  Wednesday  I met with someone named Keri and she does the observations of the museum and the content of it. She assigned me to walked around the museum and see what people would spend there time on and skip over. It was very interesting but boring because it was raining that day and not a lot of people came in. I did notice that a lot of people would find there self spending time in the Civil rights and black freedom parts of the museums  Thursday  Sadly Thursday was suppose to be another our bridge day that we couldn't do so I s...

The Levine museum of the new south - Noah Carpenter - week 2

On Monday of week 2 I joined a staff meeting call. I got to meet all the staff members and what they all do for the museum. I got to see how a staff meeting is run and it was interesting how meetings are held it was very informal which I enjoyed Tuesday  On Tuesday I was supposed to go to our bridge for kids but sadly something got messed up and I couldn't. What our bridge for kids does is they help immigrate kids learn but different activity's and taking them in field trips which is really awesome. I was sad that we could not have done it  Wednesday  On Wednesday I was asked to make a family day assignment for one of there themes. What their family days are is they do a community event on the day of the day, Martin Luther day, women's history, and etc. So I thought they could do a Collage painting with different canvases on famous figures and they liked the idea and have been trying to start that idea. Thursday  On Thursday I was suppose to be at our bridge f...

The Levine museum of the new south - Noah Carpenter - Week 1

My first day I meet with Alexander at VAPA Center. He told me what I will be doing at the museum. He also told me the museum is currently out of there normal space because of it being to old but Wells Fargo gave them a free space for a couple of years. He also told me that my big project that I will be presenting is how they can get more younger audiences at the museum. Tuesday On this day I was assigned to be at the front desk of the museum and check people in and introduce them to the museum. I worked with Sonja and she showed me how to do the job. It was pretty fun interacting with everyone and cool seeing how many people were visiting Charlotte. There was also a world cup game happening so we had a lot of people who know nothing about Charlotte visit us. Wednesday On Wednesday it was a remote day and I was told to listen to there podcast and watch there "youth voices" videos on YouTube. There podcast was just on history of Charlotte and was about ten episodes overall. T...

Holocaust Museum Houston - Rachelle Escobar, Week 4

Week 4!     07/30      Tuesday starts my last week at Holocaust Museum Houston. I feel really excited about my presentation at the end of this week, and I was given time to work on my presentation and complete my final project.  While listening to an NPR podcast, I finished my slide deck and added pictures from Washington Week. I worked on adding my notes to the presentation and fleshing out what I wanted to say. I enjoy presenting and public speaking, and although I may not be the best at it, I know that my skills are adequate. Before my storytime last week, the Education team encouraged me to practice and told me to not feel anxious, assuming that I would be nervous to speak to an auditorium of people. Although I was worried and I did practice, I was proud that I had the self-confidence and experience to not be nervous while reading. So, as I start to plan this next presentation, I plan for it to go flawlessly.  I also got two examples of ...

National Museum of Mexican Art - Citlalli Alaniz, Week 4

Week 4 (July 22 - July 26) My final week the campers and I, started off the week with a Zines presentation given by my supervisor and the week's instructor, Angela. The Zines assignment and project was given to the campers in order to display how much they have learned and how much fun they have had during their time at summer camp. The plan with the Zines was to have them displayed in front of their mini-musuems to show their parents how much they've done overall.  After the brief presentation, the campers started a first draft of their zines and then got started creating and designing their official zines.  Here are the campers paying attention to the presentation. The following days were given to the campers as make up days in case they hadn't finished some of the components in their mini-museums. My job was to help them with anything we needed as well as work on camp superlatives to present them with on the last day. After three make up days, the campers were schedul...

Phillip & Patricia Frost Museum of Science - Angeline Alvarez, week 4

Monday 7/29/2024 When I arrived at the museum, I went straight to the 4th floor, where some of the offices are located. There, I met with Shannon, who would be my supervisor of the week. She is in charge of the Conservation Department, known as MUVE, here at the Frost Museum. She explained that they are currently focusing on two main areas: research and outdoor conservation. In the research area they have the WetLab, a research facility where they experiment and keep a gene bank for corals and the outdoor conservation team, who has more activities, such as, surveying, planting native species and beach clean ups. Today, I worked in the WetLab with Caileen. She gave me a guide with all the research that they do in various organisms, like the corals and jellies. She told me that with this guide I could answer the questions of any of the visitors. After reading the guide she gave a tour of the lab, showing me the tanks with different corals, and she even explained one of the experime...

El Paso Museum of History - Jimena Huante - Week 4

A Week of Reflection  During my last week, I took the time to reflect on everything I've learned over the past few weeks. Balancing my internship with weekend performances in VIVA El Paso, I realized that both experiences were coming to an end. My time at the museum has been truly inspiring, and I decided to brainstorm ideas for potential exhibits. With a focus on introducing visitors to the rich multicultural and multinational history of the border region, I've been contemplating combining this with my love for the performing arts.  The concept for my exhibit was inspired by my involvement in Viva! El Paso and conversations with past music directors and performers. I grew fascinated by the event's inception, its "Golden Era," its evolution over time, and its enduring appeal for the future. Learning that my choi...

Oregon Museum of Science and Industry - Natalia Somma Tang, Week 4

My final week at OMSI was filled with a lot of joy, excitement, and reflection! Dyllan and I met on Tuesday happily anticipating the week ahead. Our primary focus was ensuring that the open house was executed well and successfully. To start off the week, I made my list of action items for the week to ensure that things went smoothly. I sent out an email to all of our partners checking in to make sure they were prepared to table for the event, and asked them if they needed anything from OMSI or the TTC for their set-ups.  Then, I spent some time in the Teen Tech Center looking around the space to finalize the facilitated activities for the event. We had decided that to make the open house more successful for visitors, we would set up different activity stations staffed by volunteers so that people would be able to complete something and have a small victory while in the space. While I was looking around, I talked to one of the museum volunteers, a teen named Aryan. I had met Aryan b...
