This week was definitely my busiest at Arte Americas, but also the most gratifying. My activities were varied some research, planning, event managing and writing, serving almost like a recap of everything I've done in my time here at Arte.
Saturday was my day to host the long-awaited Bilingual story time. I wasn't nervous that morning, as I had been preparing materials, spaces and reading for days prior. I came in a few hours before and set out all the materials. Assigned what I would be needing help with and began greeting people coming through the door. I had a decent turn out, at least for what would usually be an off week of BST. The reading, art and sharing took about two hours all together. I was satisfied with meeting my goal of getting it to seem just like any other reading. After, I put away the materials and chairs to ready the space for Thursday.
Sunday had a slow start. I began working on my Teen program report. At 1 there was an Arte Workshop event that had busy for the rest of the day. This week was Japanese stab book binding. First, I prepped the space and materials, then I worked with people by explaining Arte workshops and distributing more materials. I had the chance to make one for myself, and it turned out well, although it was harder than it seemed.
After Monday and Tuesday off, I returned knowing that I had one big project ahead of me. This was a final report on all the research I had been conducting. This took up most of Wednesday. It was also a coworker's birthday so we took the time to have cupcakes in the break room.
Thursday, I had the luck to assist with another Art Hop event. This time at Arte we hosted a "Spanglish" open mic as the main event. After Washington week I didn't expect to learn anything directly related to my major in Political Science, but apparently Fresno can be interesting. beginning a couple weeks ago, a councilman published a statement that there would be no outside vendors of any sort during the August Art Hop. Many people rallied behind the vendors and even began a petition against the motion. Anyways, that could have been the reason that, despite 15 degree cooler weather, this Art Hop, we had significantly less visitors. Aside from those exciting events, it was very similar to last time's event routine.
