Just in the blink of an eye, another week has passed in my internship with the Kansas City Museum! Even though my week started off pretty crazy, it truly mellowed out near the end. To start off the week, I was able to do my Storytime with a Young Ambassador on Monday, and even though not a lot of people showed up, I still had a blast reading the book and connecting with the kids through the little activities we were given! Afterward, I was able to pay a visit to another local Museum, The Wyandotte County Museum, where I was able to learn a lot Kansas City's Indigenous roots and wildlife. This is also a side note but I was able to learn that my favorite bird of all time, the blue heron, actually has a migration path that runs through Wyandotte County, and that truly blew my mind!
Tuesday and Wednesday were a little more mellow but at the same time still very interesting, I was able to sit in on a call about a new installation piece that the Kansas City Museum is planning to bring to its Indigenous exhibition, this also meant I was able to introduce myself to the majority of the museum's directing staff which -- while a little scary -- was really fun too!
Thursday was my on-site work day, I was able to state on my final project for this internship, cataloging all the artwork that we have in the museum, which meant going around and taking photos of everything while also learning more about the artwork's history. I even learned that one of my art mentors, Kiki Serna, actually did a few pieces for the museum as well! What a small world! After I finished taking photos, I sat in on another meeting, this time about Missouri Humanities and their work with the Kansas City area, which was very insightful!\
Finally that brings us to today, I was able to work from home and get some small miscellaneous work finished which included building the museum's art catalog, finishing my exhibition catalog from a week ago, and folding pamphlets that will be used tomorrow during the museum's Nuestra Legado panel, centered all around showcasing local muralists and their artwork! Overall this week has truly been a blast, but it is very bittersweet to think net week is my last week. I've enjoyed this experience so much, and I am already so excited to see what next week has in store!
