My second week at the History Colorado Center began with knowing what the theme was for the week which was storytelling. They learned how many Native American tribes used story telling to share stories with each other. They played broken telephone to demonstrate how a story might undergo change throughout time. To continue this theme they played another game where they wrote down different words and then the teacher would distribute them and they would have to create a story with the word they had. One of the stories they created involved Godzilla going on a date with one of the teachers.
During this week I also had an intense chess battle against one of the campers. This camper was very smart, so that you get to know a little bit about him he knows three different languages, English, a little bit of Russian and French. Not only that but he got second place at a chess tournament recently so naturally I was a little bit nervous. The chess battle lasted the whole free time period, until he had to leave which resulted in a tie, both of us having a king and a rook on the board. Sadly I won’t have a rematch because he won’t be attending camp next week.
This week I also helped one of the teachers lead a class where she taught the students about the five major groups in Colorado ranging from the Ute Tribe to the Miners coming in during the gold rush. Last but not least we had another fun day where the kids enjoyed watching the Super Mario movie and eating popsicles.
