Monday July 8 - On Monday I got to tour the museum and see many of the exhibits by myself. This was my first time seeing these exhibits alone and I hadn’t realized how much information I had missed whenever I came with other programs. I got to learn a lot about Native American culture as well. After seeing most of the museum I went and joined a camp that is hosted every year at the History Colorado Center. My first day I didn’t get to really connect with the kids but I got to talk to a few of them and introduce myself.
Wednesday July 10 - During this day one of the students asked me an important question, “What’s your favorite color between these three; dark blue, light blue or white?” Wednesday I got to spend the whole day with them. It was a day filled with activities, we visited the Capitol of Colorado, visited one of the exhibits and they created a water filter using a coffee filter, activated charcoal, gravel and sand.
Friday July 12 - The reason as to why the question of my favorite color was important is because the student hand knitted a snake using my favorite color. This defined the rest of the day, it was a relaxing day where the students got to visit any exhibit they wanted. They also learned a lot about the water cycle and created two different experiments. One of those involved using shaving cream as clouds and how they collect water. The other experiment showed them how precipitation worked by having water in a plastic bag and taping it outside. And to finish it off we had popsicles while watching Elemental.
